This Scholarship will allow Brittany Patricia Rose Corcoran to do what she wanted to do most, help others. The Scholarship will be awarded each year at the South Dakota Girls Varsity Tournament to a girl hockey player in South Dakota that also has the same caring, sportsman attitude, and community involvement. Brittany never cared what jersey you wore, she would battle you on the ice and hug and laugh with you after!
The family and friends of Brittany wish to honor her memory by awarding a scholarship to a graduating senior female hockey player in the State of South Dakota to attend an accredited post-secondary educational institution of their choice.

2024 Scholarship Recipient
Sydney Fornwald
The “Fight Like A Ninja” Scholarship will be awarded each year in memory of Brittany “The Ninja” Corcoran and celebrate the love, sportsmanship, and community involvement that she brought to South Dakota Girl’s Hockey. This scholarship will be given to one Senior girl hockey player in the State of South Dakota that also possess these qualities. We are honored and pleased to present the 2024 Fight Like a Ninja Scholarship of $4,000 to Sydney Fornwald.
Sydney is a goalie for the Sioux Falls Flyers, who volunteers at many levels in her community, while maintaining a 3.97 GPA. Sydney has learned many skills and life lessons from playing hockey. To quote her, “It takes great leaders to make a difference, and I hope that I can too make a difference in other’s lives.”
A wise man once said, “The only difference between girl’s hockey teams is the jerseys they wear”, and we think Sydney does just that. So please join us in congratulating Sydney Fornwald in being awarded the 2024 Fight Like a Ninja Scholarship and wish her all the best at Grand Canyon University next year.

This scholarship will be given to one Senior girl hockey player in the State of South Dakota that also possess these qualities. Devin has been playing hockey for 14 years with the Huron All Stars, she also volunteers at many levels in her community. Devin’s passion for volunteering is diverse and list of achievements are powerful. Devin has been described as respectful, accountable and has a huge desire to learn. We wish her well in continuing to St. Cloud University and reaching her dreams with Criminal Justice.

This scholarship will be given to one Senior girl hockey player in the State of South Dakota that also possess these qualities. Reagan has been playing hockey for 11 years with the Sioux Falls Flyers and with team Ninja for 6 years she also volunteers at B-Squad Rescue, while maintaining a 4.0 GPA. Reagan’s passion for volunteering has her loving on puppies and helping younger kids learning to skate. The impact she will make in this world with her positive attitude and the service she gives to others will always be what leaves a lasting impression on all who have the honor of meeting her.

Reagan has been playing hockey for 11 years with the Sioux Falls Flyers and with team Ninja for 6 years she also volunteers at B-Squad Rescue, while maintaining a 4.0 GPA. Reagan’s passion for volunteering has her loving on puppies and helping younger kids learning to skate. The impact she will make in this world with her positive attitude and the service she gives to others will always be what leaves a lasting impression on all who have the honor of meeting her.

2021 Scholarship Recipient
Janaya Kuehl
The “Fight Like A Ninja” Scholarship will be awarded each year in memory of Brittany “The Ninja” Corcoran and celebrate the love, sportsmanship, and community involvement that she brought to South Dakota Girl’s Hockey. This scholarship will be given to one Senior girl hockey player in the State of South Dakota that also possess these qualities. We are honored and pleased to present the 2021 Fight Like a Ninja Scholarship of $4,000 to Janaya Kuehl.
Janaya plays with the Brookings Rangers and leads by example taking the youngers girls under her wing as she has done though her entire hockey career there. She volunteers throughout her community and has earned a CPR Lifesaver award for helping to save a girl from drowning by administering CPR. Janaya intends to continue onto SDSU and pursue a career as a Physician’s Assistant. To quote Janaya, “I want to give back and pay forward all the blessings in life.”

Maggie "Mayhem" O'Connor and Ava "Avalicious" Krabbenhoft
The “Fight Like A Ninja” Scholarship will be awarded each year in memory of Brittany “The Ninja” Corcoran and celebrate the love, sportsmanship, and community involvement that she brought to South Dakota Girl’s Hockey. This scholarship will be given to one Senior girl hockey player in the State of South Dakota that also possess these qualities. This year is a special year, being #4 and there was a tie from all the evaluators, so we decided to split the scholarship this year. We are honored and pleased to present the 2020 Fight Like a Ninja Scholarships of $2,000 each to Ava “Ava-licious” Krabbenhoft and Maggie “Mayhem” O’Connor.
Ava started her hockey career in Fargo and moved to play in Sioux Falls. She joined the Lady Flyers and soon became a goalie; Brittany took her under her wing and mentored her. Ava has always given that same gift to others, mentoring the littles and making an impact on everyone she meets. Ava’s light will shine on anyone and everyone she meets in her future of becoming a flight nurse at USD.
Maggie started on the JV girls team in Kindergarten and put in the EFFORT every practice and every game. She learned the most important lessons from hockey to show up and work hard no matter what. As she grew up, she took on leading her team with passion. Maggie always has always been a leader by example and put in her best effort to become an Engineer at SDSU.

Shila Simpson
The “Fight Like A Ninja” Scholarship will be awarded each year in memory of Brittany “The Ninja” Corcoran and celebrate the love, sportsmanship, and community involvement that she brought to South Dakota Girl’s Hockey. This scholarship will be given to one Senior girl hockey player in the State of South Dakota that also possess these qualities. This year Brittany’s sister Brianna “Butchie” Corcoran is here and honored to present the 2019 Fight Like a Ninja Scholarship of $4,000 to Shila Simpson.
Shila played alongside her teammates for the last 10 years with the Rushmore Thunder, she also volunteers and participates in many levels in her community, while maintaining a 3.74 GPA. Shila’s leadership is one of her many admirable qualities. Throughout her senior year of hockey, Shila has proved her position as a leader by always working the hardest and having a great attitude. She is not a leader because of what she says, rather she is a leader because those around her admire her determination and will.
A wise man once said, “The only difference between girl’s hockey teams is the jerseys they wear”, and Shila has always portrayed that. She has always dreamed of being a super hero like the team that cared for her Mom Laurie, and we know she will be. Caitlin has been playing hockey for 9 years with the Rushmore Thunder, she also volunteers at many levels in her community, while maintaining a 3.936 GPA. Caitlin’s passion for volunteering has taken her on mission trips that help to provide many new services in these developing countries. To quote Caitlin, “I just want to help people with the rest of the time I have on this earth.”

The “Fight Like A Ninja” Scholarship is being awarded to a Senior Hockey Player in the state of South Dakota. This award honors Brittany “The Ninja” Corcoran’s love for hockey and helping others. In her short life she taught us all to love, help, hope and Fight Like A Ninja on and off the ice. This Scholarship will allow her to continue to help others that have that same caring, sportsman attitude, and community involvement that Brittany had. We are honored and pleased to present the Fight Like A Ninja Scholarship of $4000 to Kaylee Mork for the very first year.
Kaylee is a Senior at Brandon Valley High School and excels in the classroom and on the ice. Her smile is infectious and her laugh can brighten up any room. She carries a great determination and work ethic into everything she does and truly leaves a positive impression on those around her. Kaylee we know the legacy you are creating is one that will carry you far in your life and it is our honor to help support you in your dreams. May you always “Fight Like A Ninja!”
